George J. Maestas

George J. Maestas, a resident of Chamita, passed away on January 3, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe G. and Lillan B. Maestas; and his siblings, Georgito Maestas, Rudy Maestas, Milton Maestas, Teresita Martinez, Florence Gallegos, and Bernadette Archuleta. George is survived by his loving daughters, AnnaLisa Maestas (Ray) and Georgette Maestas; his best friend and caregiver, Eric “Bo” Salazar; his sisters, Lillan Gurule, Dora Valdez (Horace), and Patricia Lopez; as well as his beloved nieces, nephews, and many close relatives and friends.

George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether it was hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air of the outdoors. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, loved planting a garden, and cooking for his loved ones – his specialties were red chile, beans, enchiladas and posole. George also cherished sharing a beer with those closest to him. He stayed connected with his friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

With his heart of gold, George will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

A Rosary will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:30 pm at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church at San Juan Pueblo, NM, with Mass to follow at 2:00 pm.  Burial to follow at San Pedro Cemetery in Chamita.

Serving as pallbearers are Eric “Bo” Salazar, David Martinez, Lenny Ortiz, Lucas Cordova, Ray Ortiz, and Carlos Valdez. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Duda, Ray Morales, Benjie Leyba, Donald Martinez, Estevan Herrera, and Robert Gerald Cata.
