\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n Gail Mortensen, born Dorothy Gail Gere, on September 17, 1937 passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 12, 2010 at her home in Los Alamos. Gail was a lifelong resident of NM having been born in Albuquerque, NM and was the second of four children. She graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque and attended the University of NM. She met and married her husband of 54 years Gene Mortensen in 1955 and together they raised four boys and two girls. She was a devoted wife and mother blessed with a heart of gold whose love for all was unparalleled. She brought joy and happiness to everyone with whom she shared her life and was always quick to offer a kind word to everyone she met. Nobody could resist a laugh when around Gail’s sweet and humorous nature. She will be truly missed by her family and friends for whom she was one of a kind. She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Dorothy Gere. She is survived by her husband Gene and her children—Larry of Pojoaque, Debbie Katko and her husband Mike of Santa Fe, Russ and his wife Diana of Los Alamos, Tammy Quillmann and her fiancé Lloyd McKenzie of Albuquerque, Dean and his wife Ruth of Lubbock, TX, and Kent of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by her sister Bobbie Brooks and her husband Dr. Robert Brooks of Albuquerque and brothers Frank Gere of Castro Valley, CA and Gary Gere and his wife Janet of Lake Waukomis, MO. She was blessed with eight grandchildren whom she thoroughly loved and enjoyed—Kristin, Brian, Kristofer, Scott, Craig, Trevor, Cory and Kyle. A memorial service will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 AM, March 22, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on North Road in Los Alamos. Gail and Gene’s “adopted” sons Daniel Guevara, Michael Hannaford, and Jaiya John will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in memory of Gail Mortensen. \r\n
