Gabriella “Gaby” Viarrial, age 70, a resident of the Pueblo of Pojoaque, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at home. She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Flora Viarrial; paternal grandparents, Fermin and Feliciana Viarrial; maternal grandparents, Juan B and Bonifacia Lopez; brothers, Robert, David, Leroy, and Ben Jr.; sister Gloria Viarrial and twin babies. Paternal aunts, Cordelia Gomez (Randy); Dora Martinez; Frances Viarrial; Maria Inez Viarrial; paternal uncles, Margarito, Gabriel, and Governor Jacob Viarrial. Maternal uncles, Santiago, Tobias, and Liborio Lopez (Pauline), Maternal aunts Belen LeDoux (Abe); Epimenia Medina (Teofilo); & Clara Saiz. Nephew, Jordan Valdez; and niece Amorita Gallegos.
Gaby is survived by her sons: Jeff Montoya and partner, Justna and Gabriel Montoya Sr. and wife Heather; sisters, Betty Jean Viarrial and Annette Hooper; brother, Joseph Viarrial (Roseanne) all from the Pueblo of Pojoaque; Casey Montoya father of her sons; Paternal relatives: aunt Josefina Villarreal; aunt and friend Phoebe Petty; uncles: Ralph and Jimmy Viarrial all from the Pueblo of Pojoaque; Maternal Relatives: uncle Arthur Saiz; aunts Juanita Martinez & Rosita Esquibel. Lifelong friends and adopted sisters Franzetta Cheathon and Elaine Stephens; grandchildren Jeremy Montoya, Gabriel Montoya Jr., Nathaniel Montoya, Brandon Hatfield, Marcus Montoya, Andru Herrod, Francisco Montoya, Arissa Herrod, Arianna Montoya, Christian Montoya; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, god children, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Gaby was a retired nurse of 40+ years, court reporter, truck driver, volunteer firefighter/EMT, and active tribal council member of over 50 years. She was very nurturing in her family cultures, a free-spirited fun-loving woman with an adventurous nature. Gaby will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her laugh which will always be cherished in our hearts and memories.
Viewing will be at her home on the Pueblo of Pojoaque on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, starting at 12:00 pm; rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm; burial will be on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 8:00 am at the Pueblo of Pojoaque Cemetery.
