Gabriel Covarrubias Jr, age 68 of Espanola, NM, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, January 13, 2025. He was born in Rio Grande City, TX to Juanita & Gabriel Covarrubias Sr.

After graduating from high school, Gabriel joined the US Army. He decided to reside in Santa Fe, New Mexico after completing his military career. Several years later he moved to La Puebla, New Mexico where he would meet his wife Patricia of 25 years. 

 Gabriel worked with the New Mexico DOT until he retired. He enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking, and simply hanging out in his backyard. He also enjoyed listening to music from his time and greatly beyond. He was a devoted LA Rams fan and never missed a game.

 Gabriel was preceded in death by his parents Juanita & Gabriel Covarrubias Sr; father-in-law Pat Garcia; stepson Walter Serrano; and brothers-in-laws Chris & Carlos Garcia. 

 He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Covarrubias; daughters Desarea Trujillo of Las Cruses, Gabriella Covarrubias of Espanola; sons, Aaron Covarrubias of Santa Fe, and Gabriel Covarrubias of Espanola & stepson Joseph Serrano of Espanola. Grandchildren Joaquin Covarrubias, Orion Trujillo and Cassie Trujillo. He is also survived by his sisters Edith C. Garza (Jose Angel), Noemi Covarrubias, Haydee Covarrubias, Odette Covarrubias, Andrea Sepulveda (Jaime) all of Rio Grande City, TX; Mother-in-law Virgina Garcia of Espanola, & many other nieces and nephews.

Gabriel you will be missed more than words can say, but your memory will live on forever. 

Services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Holy Family Parish in Chimayo, NM at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, at 11:00am.
