FREDERICK J. EDESKUTY, SR., 89, a resident of Los Alamos for 63 years, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alcestis von Edeskuty; brothers, Joseph von Edeskuty and Jack Edeskuty and parents-in-law, Alfred and Adelia Bergren. Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his children. After receiving his doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering and Physics at the University of Minnesota, he moved his family to New Mexico where he began a 40 year scientific career with the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Fred was passionate about traveling; he traveled all over the world and he loved taking his wife everywhere he went. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him and his endless supply of jokes. Fred is survived by his wife, Jeanette Edeskuty of Los Alamos; children, Janet Weigel and husband Paul of Edmond, Oklahoma, Fred Edeskuty and wife Brenda of Jemez Springs, New Mexico, Sharman Carpenter of Savannah, Texas and Dr. Celeste Raffin and husband Ralph of Park City, Utah; 5 grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos. Burial to follow at the Guaje Pines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Self Help Organization or Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos. The family of Fred J. Edeskuty, Sr. has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
