Fred Montoya, 86, a resident of El Rito, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Federico L. Montoya; mother, Margarita Delgado and sister, Lucy Delgado. Mr. Montoya was a mechanic and later retired to be a school bus driver in which he retired from that also. He enjoyed fishing and loved to keep busy. He was known as the whistler at local stores. He will always be remembered as such a jolly positive outgoing man. Mr. Montoya is survived by his wife, Bernie Montoya of El Rito; daughters, Monique Montoya of Rio Chama; step-daughter, Anita Aragon and companion Luis Acosta of Abiquiu; granddaughters, Desiree Montoya- Vidal of Albuquerque and Selena Ocaña of Rio Chama; grandson, Sebastian Ocaña of Rio Chama; great-granddaughter, Gloria Grace Gallegos; great-grandson, Jeremy Soliz Jr. of Albuquerque; brother, Pete (Pedro) Montoya of Petaluma, CA; sister, Stella Floyd of Petaluma, CA; special friend, Ted Archuleta of El Rito; helper, Juan Carlos Lopez of Española. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
