Frank “Shorty” Salazar – Age 86 a resident of Chimayo passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents: Facundo and Carlota Salazar; wife, Victoria Salazar; cousins: Virginia Sena, Christina Lopez and Josie Baros; close friends: Fidel, Emilia, Reynaldo, Frankie and David Martinez, Tobias, Larry, Sr. and Leland, Sr. Romero. Frank “Shorty” Salazar, used to work in the mines in Silverton, CO. He was a very funny and outgoing man. He loved to joke and make people laugh. Frank “Shorty” lived in Chimayo for 45 years with his close friends Fidel and Emilia Martinez and the last 4 years with his caretakers Vicente and Monica Valdez. He is survived by his daughters: Noel Salazar and Carlota Salazar both of Denver, CO; brother, Joe Salazar of Albuquerque; cousins: Grace and Jessica Bustos of Chamita, Jenny Bustos of Albuquerque and Joe Bustos of Belen; caretaker of 10 years, Monica Valdez of Chimayo; caretaker of 4 years. Vicente A. Valdez of Chimayo; close friends: Betty Romero and Leo Ortega both of Chimayo; and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial will follow at the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers: Vicente A. Valdez, Leland Romero, Jr., Leo Ortega, Vicente Baeza, Tobias Romero and Enrique Valdez. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: Monica Valdez, Destiny Valdez, Jasmine Valdez, Betty Romero, Nicole Romero and Desiree Martinez.
