Frances Maez

Frances C. Maez, 91, a resident of La Mesilla, born April 2, 1926, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 3, 2018. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Abel B. Maez; parents, Emilia and Fermin Espinoza; brothers, Adelaido and Pedro Espinoza. She was born and raised in La Mesilla to Fermin Espinoza and Emilia Roybal, she helped her parents with the farming and ranching when her brothers went to World War II. She met and married Abel in 1946 and raised 5 children. Frances loved cooking, Crocheting, Canning, Baking and gardening, her greatest joy were her grandchildren, her tortillas were their favorite. Frances is survived by her children, Marshall, Tony (Anna), Tina (Rudy), David and Imelda; she was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; two very special neighbors, Marlene and Conrad Martinez.  A rosary will be recited on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a burial to follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Leonard Maez, Dennis Maez, Nathan Maez, Mario Guillen, Anthony Maez and Mike Morse, honorary pallbearers are Jeff Maestas, Rudy Lujan and all her grandchildren.
