Floyd "Shorty" Age - 80 - Ojo Sarco Tafoya

FLOYD “SHORTY” TAFOYA, 80, born on December 21, 1930, a resident of Ojo Sarco and formerly of Grants, passed away tragically on Sunday, December 18, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cipriano and Cresenciana Tafoya; wife, Erlinda V. Tafoya; granddaughter, Stephanie Tafoya-Salazar; sister, Adelia Sandoval; father-in-law, Enriques Velarde; mother-in-law, Eufelia Velarde; brothers-in-law, Henry, Donald and Toby Velarde and George Salazar. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class. He was a retired uranium miner and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3683, St. Theresa Parish in Grants and a current parishioner of the Santo Tomas Catholic Church in Ojo Sarco. He was a very devoted and religious catholic man. Mr. Tafoya is survived by his son, Eddie Randy Tafoya of Ojo Sarco; daughter, Tania Tafoya and husband Nick Salaz; grandchildren, Meghan and Gabriel Salaz all of Los Lunas; step-great-granddaughter, Alyssa Garcia; brother, Candido Tafoya and wife Dora of Chamisal; sister, Elsie Salazar of Eagle Nest; step-brothers, Lee Salazar and wife Beva of Española and Dennis Salazar and wife Florence of Grand Junction, CO; sister-in-law, Lorraine Velarde of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Clovis Velarde and wife Nora and Joe Velarde and wife Viola all of Bernalillo and Ismael Sandoval of Rifle, CO; sisters-in-law, Dorcas Velarde of Dixon and Florence Velarde of Rio Lucio; uncles, Abe Aguilar of Peñasco and Sam Aguilar of Kearns, Utah; aunt, Dora Velarde of West Jordan, Utah and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. also at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Gabriel Salaz, Carlos Velarde, Ismael Sandoval Jr., Arnold Salazar, Ruben Aguilar, Nick Salaz Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be all his God-children.
