FLORA CHAVEZ
, 91, a longtime resident of Lawndale, CA, over 40 years, left this Earth on May 24, 2020 to join her parents, Guzman and Tonita (Montoya) Vigil who long preceded her, and daughter, Catherine Tsuma that preceded her in 2018. She was the widow of the late, Filiberto Trujillo Chavez who preceded her in death on March 28, 1971 and his parents, Manuel Chavez and Victoria (Trujillo) Chavez.
Surviving her are 2 sons, Manuel and his wife Rosa Chavez of Lawndale, CA and Oliver and his wife Chris Chavez of Mesa, AZ; 2 daughters, Grace and her husband Eddie Trujillo of Española and Pauline Chavez of Long Beach, CA; son-in-law, Wayne Tsuma of Las Vegas, NV; 5 sisters, Matilda and her husband Elmer Romero of Sombrillo, Bernie and her husband Rudy Cordova of El Guache, Amada Schultz of Belen, Lilly Martinez of Arroyo Seco, Sylvia Salazar of Albuquerque, 1 brother, David Vigil of El Guache; 5 sisters-in-law, Virginia Vigil and Teresa Vigil of El Guache, Solema Harvey of Santa Fe, Rosina Pacheco of Colorado Springs, CO, and Loraine Chavez of Torrance, CA; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who spent the majority of her life caring and loving her grandchildren. All she ever wanted was the best for her family, and now her legacy is her loving family.
Mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish in Chimayo. A rosary to follow that evening at 7:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, only 75 people will be allowed inside the building. Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers, Manuel Chavez, III, Edward Chavez, Hernan Sanchez, Javier Alecio, Joseph Chavez, Casey Tsuma, and Eddie and Luke Trujillo. The family of Flora Chavez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
