Fidel G. Rendon
February 21, 1955 – April 3, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fidel George Rendon, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Fidel passed away on April 3, 2025, after a lengthy illness with loved ones by his side.
Born on February 21, 1955, to George and Maria Ana Rendon (Dixon, NM). Fidel was a life-long resident of Velarde, New Mexico. He went to boarding school at Menual High School in Albuquerque, NM, where he graduated, got married, then moved back to Velarde where his heart and soul was.
He worked for Nambe Mills for over 27 years, but his true passion was being in the outdoors. He loved fishing, camping, hunting and going for his cruise to the mountains and listening to KDCE. He loved music and playing the guitar, he was in a family band many moons ago. He passed down his love for singing to his daughter and his love of the guitar to his son. He was a deep-rooted catholic, serving as a mayordomo for many years at Our Lady of Guadalupe and was a Penitente for the Morada of Lyden. He left a legacy at the Morada, building the altar with his famous carvings. He was an incredibly talented artist, winning many first place awards for his wood carvings of Santos and Retablos. He also made beautiful furniture. It was the simple pleasures in life that Fidel truly treasured.
Fidel was an amazing father and grandfather; his children were his pride and joy. He taught them that family was the most important thing in life. There was not a thing this man wouldn’t do for his children. Our hearts are broken, our dad will be deeply missed. His smile and his laughter and his kindness will be missed by many. His memory will live in our hearts forever.
Fidel was preceded in death by his parents George and Maria Ana Rendon; his daughter Janet Mae Rendon; grandparents Romolo and Benigna Trujillo and Fidel and Felicitas Rendon.
Fidel is survived by his children Michelle Martinez and husband Andrew and Kevin Rendon and wife Chrystal; grandchildren, Davy Martinez, Mikayla Martinez, Caleb Martinez, Cadence Rendon and Emma Rendon; great grandchild Lucas A. Martinez; godchildren, Jacob Gonzales, Joe Black Jr. and Destiny Gonzales, brothers Joseph Black (Gia) and Manuelito Rivera, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Rosary will take place Wednesday April 16, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Velarde, NM, at 10:00 am followed by a Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Cemetery in Velarde, NM.
