Fidel Martinez Jr.

FIDEL (FIDDLES) MARTINEZ JR., Age 77, a resident of Hernandez, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. Fidel was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fidel Sr. and Adelina Martinez of Rio Chama; brothers, Clotario and Orlando Martinez; sister-in-law, Orlinda; great-niece, Claudette; brothers-in-law, Medardo Gallegos and Candido and Fernando Garcia; step-son-in-law, Harold Barela and father in-law, Tony Garcia. He retired from the State of New Mexico as a Correctional Officer. Fidel was an active member of the San Juan Bautista de Balde’s Land Grant and also a recent member of the New Mexico Historic Society. Fidel enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed walking around the house yard, gardening, but most of all he enjoyed camping with his wife Rose and dog, Captain and his close friends in El Rito Canon and friends at Abiquiu Lake. Fidel is survived by his wife, Rosita Rose Martinez; children, Tammie and companion Matt, Mitchell Martinez of Santa Fe, Alberta Martinez and Sebastian Martinez of Albuquerque; mother of his children, Linda Sanchez; step-children, Alvin Martinez and companion Pearl and her family, Charlene Martinez Barela; grandchildren, Monique and husband Danny, Corina and husband Rich, Linda Martinez, Humberto Grajeda and Antonio Gallegos, great-grandchildren, Ashley Tyler, Caylap, Cooper, Alex, and Isabella; step-grandchildren, Kayla and companion Mathew, Erika and Carlos; his little Chiquita Aieshah Barela, step-great-grandchildren, Jayden and Noah, Aden and Annaleah; mother in-law, Antonia Garcia; brothers, Agustin and Florida, Luis and wife Luisa, Cy Martinez; sisters, Teresa Gallegos, Loyola Martinez; sisters-in-law, Jane and husband George Sandoval, Irene and husband Lee Romero, Vicky and companion Jesus, Anita Espinoza and Brenda Garcia, brothers-in-law, Leroy Garcia and wife Linda, Isaac and wife Lucy, Manuel Garcia and wife Elvia, Anthony Garcia and Ted and many nieces, nephews and many friends; marriage padrinos E.P. and Elieen Martinez of Chimayo. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a Devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Final Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel, with graveside services to follow at 11:00a.m. at the San Jose Cemetery in Hernandez. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Diabetic Foundation of New Mexico, 2625 Pennsylvania NE Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110. Serving the family as pallbearers, Joe Steven Martinez, Kevin Martinez, Bill Martinez, Carlos Martinez, George Sandoval, and Ray Gallegos, honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
