\r\nFIDEL ALARID, 90, a resident of Los Luceros, made his final journey home to our Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014. He was born November 19, 1923 in Santa Fe to Inez Gonzales and Amado Alarid. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Octaviano and David Alarid; sisters, Elena Gonzales, Dolores Rodriguez and Rosa Garcia and his grandson, Jeremy Bustos. Mr. Alarid served his country during WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Saratoga and USS Tangier as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate. After the war Fidel worked as a ranch hand before beginning his 35 year career at Los Alamos National Laboratories, first as a mailman and later as a Helium Safety Inspector. Fidel’s passion was ranching. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he raised livestock and horses, grew vegetables and worked with wood to make many different pieces of usable art. He also enjoyed watching baseball and rodeos, especially the bronco riders. Mr. Alarid is survived by his wife of 63 years, Toni Alarid; brother, Amado Alarid of Culver City, CA; brother-in-law, Arturo Garcia of Aztec; daughters, Rose Alarid of Los Luceros and Cathy Alarid of Albuquerque; grandson, Benjamin Bustos and wife Tina; great-grandsons, Christopher and Mario of Rio Rancho, Alissa Brown and great-granddaughter, Elle Bustos of Santa Fe and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Santa Fe. Burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers Michael Alarid, Eddie Vigil, Tim Gonzales, David Garcia, Christopher Bustos, and Manuel Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be all his God-children. The Alarid family extends a heartfelt appreciation to caregivers, Adriana Muñoz and Octavianito Andy Alarid. The family of Fidel Alarid has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n \r\n
