FERNANDO LOPEZ, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010. He was born April 25, 1927 to Agapita and Belarmino Lopez. Fernando was a life long resident of Abiquiu, NM, a World War II Army Veteran and retired laborer who loved the mountains above Abiquiu and the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Filadelfio Martinez, Abel Lopez, Eusebio Lopez, Tomas Lopez, and Juan Lopez; his sister, Margarita Lopez; his mother and father-in-law Francisquita and Estiben Suazo and son-in-law Anthony Gallegos. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife of 58 years, Candelaria; his children, Frances Gallegos, Agapita Judy Lopez, Joseph Lopez and wife Beverly, Belarmino Lopez and wife Diane, Steve Lopez and Margarito Lopez all of Abiquiu; 15 grandchildren, including special granddaughters, Cindy Gallegos-Witt, Kika Sanchez, and Jacquelyn Lopez; and 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Ida Archuleta and her husband Bernardo; brother-in-law, Joe Suazo and his wife Clara; special nieces and nephews, Yvette Harrison, Virgina Lopez, Eusebio Lopez, and Bobby Lopez and also survived by many other relatives and friends. Cremation is being planned. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Memorial Mass officiated by Fr. James Marshall will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Tony Gallegos, Nick Gallegos, Vicente Lopez, Orlando Lopez, Jesse Sanchez, Randy Dominguez and Joseph Suazo. Honorary pallbearers are, Eduardo Martinez, Jose “Pepe” Lopez, Bernie Archuleta, and Pablo Archuleta. The Lopez family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
