FELIX MARTINEZ, 88, a resident of El Guache, died on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at his home. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Ross Martinez, Odelia Ross, Bentura Martinez, Eloy Martinez, Ninfa Smith and Edna Edmonds. He was born October 4, 1926 to Felix and Ramoncita Martinez. He married Eliza Martinez in September of 1955. They were married for 55 years until she passed away 4 years before him. Felix was a long time resident of El Guache where he lived after leaving Santa Cruz when he married. He was an employee of Santa Cruz High School for many years and later retired from Los Alamos County. He loved to garden and read the newspaper. He enjoyed long (sometimes quiet) visits over coffee and pastries. He especially enjoyed driving his little red truck on frequent shopping trips to Center Market or the post office. He loved animals and always had pigs and dogs and cats. He loved people and was kind hearted and genuine with everyone he met. He had a quiet spirit and lived a humble, peaceful life. He was a beloved “grandfather”, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He will be missed by many. Surviving him are his brother-in-law, Leroy and wife Velma Martinez along with their children, Leonard Martinez, Carlos Martinez and Carmella Sanchez of Velarde. He leaves behind his brother, Levi Martinez and wife Margaret of Santa Cruz and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He is also survived by his best friend and cousin, Wilfred Valdez of El Guache, dear friends Phillip and Helen Gomez of El Rancho, as well as his sisters-in-law, Emiliana and Aida Martinez. A rosary will be recited on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a memorial mass to celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery. The family of Felix Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
