Felipa Vallejos

Felipa “Pita” Vallejos, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016 in her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Pita was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Felipa Vigil; husband, Joe Vallejos; her daughters, Marian Vallejos and Margie Vallejos; sister, Mazie Weaver; brothers, Juan, Mike and Eppie Vigil; sisters in law, Teddy Vigil, Mercedes Vallejos and Lucy Hill; brothers in law, Butch Weaver, Abel and Albert Vallejos. Pita is survived by her daughters, Gloria Vallejos (Richard County), Phyllis Thormahlen (John), Janet Hiller (Terry) and Agnes Vallejos (Carlos Orona); sons, Anthony and Andrew Vallejos; sister, Marie Vigil; brothers, Pedro Vigil (Kim) and Gus Vigil (Elaine). She was loved by many nieces and nephews. Pita was proud of her grandchildren, Jared, Shelby, Cristiana, Gabriela, Camille, Estevan, Alazai and Jeralynn. She was quick to offer to take the kids to go out to eat earning her the nickname, “Grandma Pizza”. Pita was born in Alcalde, NM and grew up in the Española Valley. She was the oldest in her family. After graduating from Española High School, she began working at the Los Alamos Post Office where she met her husband Joe Vallejos. Pita and Joe raised their family in Los Alamos. Pita remained in the family home until 2011 when she moved to the Good Life in Los Lunas, NM. In 2014 Pita moved to The Retreat Gardens in Rio Rancho, NM. She would not want to single out any one caregiver or nurse in the senior living homes where she received life extending care because she respected and enjoyed everyone so much, but she expressed a special appreciation for Sharon, Dawn, Jude, Geo, Mirta,  Cindy, Dr. Ivan and especially Juliet and Donald. We are grateful for the care she received from her hospice nurse Megan and especially grateful for the expert care of her physician, Ricardo Ortega whose sage management of her care provided her with an improved quality of life for longer than she thought possible. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 5:30p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary to follow at 6:00p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Espanola, with graveside services to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:15p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the New Mexico School for the Blind Foundation @ www.nmschoolforblind.com.
