Federico “Fred” Martinez, a resident of Dixon, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delfin and Beatrice Martinez; brother, Leroy Martinez, sister, Eileen Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Glen Martinez and Paul Donella. Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was well known for his apple orchard and his passion for corvettes. Fred is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruby Martinez, children, Chris Martinez and wife Sarah, Louisa Martinez and spouse Chris Esquibel; sisters, Linda Martinez, Nancy Romero, Sadie Donella, Lydia Cordova and spouse Ignacio; brother-in-law, Juan Rodriguez; grandchildren, Paul Martinez, Marina Forster, Alegra Martinez, Caleb Montoya, Mariah Sweeney, and Jose Duran; close cousin Norman Medina, plus numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The family would like to say a special Thank you to Home Care nurses, Rakia, Marita and Felicia, staff in chemo room at the Cancer Center in Santa Fe and everyone who helped support and pray for the family. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a devotional service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Embudo Presbyterian Church, with a burial to follow at the Embudo Presbyterian Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Andrew Martinez, Miguel Rodriguez, Paul Martinez, Rachel Ortega, Roberto Cordova, Delfin Cordova, Gilbert Carrillo, and Frankie Martinez, honorary pallbearers named are Chris Esquibel, Sarah Martinez, John Rodriguez, Steve Rodriguez, Samuel Rodriguez, Donna Donella, Yvonne De Silva, Sean Romero, Igancio Cordova Jr., Caleb Montoya, Jose Duran, Mariah Sweeny, Alegra Martinez, and Marina Forster. The family of Federico “Fred” Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
