Fedelina Lopez, age 92, passed peacefully into the light of God on July 22, 2024, in the presence of her loving children and grandchildren. Fedelina (Faye) was born August 9, 1931, to Marcos and Floripa Vigil of Cundiyo.
Fedelina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Felipe, older and younger brothers both named Ernesto, brother Manuel, niece Tina Lopez and nephew Dennis Vigil and many other family members.
As a girl, she grew up part of a close, caring family, learning the value of hard work and dedication on her family’s pastoral land. Fedelina was a graduate of Pojoaque High School. As a young woman Fedelina worked eight years at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. During this time she met and married Felipe Lopez, a widower with two young children. Fedelina and Felipe made their home near his family in Riverside.
Fedelina was a devoted mother, devout Catholic, and phenomenal cook. Her hands were always busy preparing the best tortillas, beans, mashed potatoes, posole, red chile and delicious roasts. Her pastelitos, biscochitos, and chocolate cake were the best in the world. She filled the bellies and hearts of family members and neighbor kids alike, and she nourished all with her care and wisdom.
With help from their children, Fedelina and Felipe always grew a large garden, tended fruit trees, and raised cattle. The children and grandchildren all learned how to plant a garden and most importantly share their harvest.
Fedelina was a marvelous grandmother. She always kept her grandchildren in her thoughts and prayers. She taught and guided them in so many ways. Fedelina is deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children Larry Lopez, Roy Lopez (Sharon), Diane Quintana (Charles); stepchildren Rose Martinez and Mike Lopez (Shirley); grandchildren John, Nina, Allen (Amanda), Casey, Kurtis, Gabriel (Haley), Andrea, Nathan and daughter Aubrey, Chris and Jarred; brothers Jose Ramon Vigil (Aurelia), David Vigil, sister Corina Pool and innumerable other family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held at Santa Cruz de la Cañada Catholic Church at 9:00 am on Monday, August 5, 2024, followed by burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
