Everett Leroy Melton, 78, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away of a lengthy illness peacefully at home with his family at his side on Monday, March 3, 2014. Everett was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ruby Melton; grandparents, Elmore and Melia Melton, Roy and Mabel Stone; in-laws, Frank and Marie Cruikshank; nephew, Jim Black; brother-in-laws, Ray Pierce, and Bill Black. Everett was Born September 15, 1935, and started working with Mountain States Telephone Co. in 1953 and saw 4 name changes ending with Quest after 39 ½ years. He married Sandra October 6, 1956, they had two sons and shared farming properties with Everetts parents. Everett played sports in High School and later coached both of his sons in Little League baseball. He bowled in City Leagues with his wife Sandra. He loved hunting with his sons, family, and friends or whomever needed a partner. He took frequent fishing trips and spent many weekends camping. He was a devoted Baptist and was very generous with his Church and the needy most of all he loved his family more than life its self. Everett is survived by his wife of 57 years Sandra Melton; sons, Dale Melton (Leslie), Vince Melton (Elizabeth); sister, Barbra Perkins (Bob); grandchildren, Samantha, and Kalen; step-children, John Gallegos (Crystal), Rebecca Quintana (Mark), Tanya Gallegos (Gary), and Gabriel Rodella (Audrey); nieces, Marie Porter (Tom), Tammy Sanchez ( Mario), Betty Thompson (Ben), and Jay Black and companion Rachel; and nine great-grandchildren he called his own, Ten great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. There will be a memorial held in Alamogordo on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Beethel Baptist Church, 1316 Scinic Drive. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be Don Randolph, Richard Suggs, Loren Omness, Don Josselyn, Steve Guillette, Robert Perkins, Gerald Hansen, and Johnny Coble.
