Evelyn Valdez Giron, (January 29, 1929 - September 5, 2024)

Evelyn Valdez Giron, 95, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, surrounded by her family, and loved ones. Born on January 29, 1929, in Nambe, New Mexico, Evelyn lived a life defined by devotion to her family, an unwavering faith, and a remarkable strength that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Evelyn married her beloved husband, Benigno Giron, in 1959, and together they built a home filled with love and generosity. She was a proud and caring mother to four children: Theresa Martinez, Della Craig, Margie Abeyta, and Leroy Giron. As a mother and grandmother, Evelyn’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her own family. She was known for her warm heart, her incredible cooking, and her willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was a woman of deep faith, active in her church community for many years. Her garden, like her family, flourished under her careful care, as she found joy and peace tending to her vegetables and red and green chile. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Benigno Giron, her parents, Luis and Eulogia Valdez, and her brothers Benancio Valdez, Vianes Valdez, Horacio Valdez as well as her sister Lillie Chavez; brothers-in-law Salomon Chavez and Carlos Vaughn; sisters-in-law Stella Valdez, Consuelo Valdez, and Rosie Valdez. son in law Armando Martinez. Surviving children: Theresa Martinez, Della (Arthur) Craig, Margie (Norbert) Abeyta, and Leroy Giron; her grandchildren Chris Martinez, Jenna (Carlos) Garcia, Jason (Ciana) Martinez, Ryan (Mikki) Martinez, Jesse (Angie) Giron; Surviving great-grandchildren Christopher, Armando, Jada, Ilyana, Jordynn, Cataleya, Aaliyah, Payton, Lluvia, and expecting great grandchild. Surviving brother Marcial (Ademia) Valdez. Surviving sister Jennie Vaughn. 

Evelyn’s family will forever treasure the countless memories of her loving guidance, her infectious laughter, and her endless generosity. Her legacy of love will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her. 

A Viewing will take place on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, New Mexico. A Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

Serving the family as pallbearers are Jason Martinez, Ryan Martinez, Jesse Giron, Chris Martinez, Armando Martinez, and David Osuna. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to: Janet Garcia who was like a daughter to Evelyn as well as Carmelina Spears for her selfless care and generosity. Katrina, Elizabeth, and Tara of Anvoi Hospice and Brookdale Santa Fe assisted living for exceptional service and loving support.
