Evangelina T. Martinez

She was the last survivor of her siblings, Teodoro, Delfina, Rosa, Lala, Tila, Ernesto, Margarito, Felix and Romeo. Evangelina (Eva) was born to Felix and Martina Trejo on December 4, 1929. If anyone knew our mom you would have heard her story of being a great cotton picker for her daddy and she would even put the grown men to shame. She was very proud of this. On May 22, 1952 mom married our father Zac Martinez. They lived in different states but finally settled down here in New Mexico where she became a great piñon picker. They were blessed with four daughters and one son. They were in their glory when they finally had their boy. They owned the Chevron gas station in Ojo Caliente for many years until dad injured his back doing mechanical work on both family and friends’ vehicles. Our mother was a very good cook, so after this adventure, they decided to open and become proud owners of El Taquito Café until dad fell ill in the year 2000. Mom and dad were married 52 years before dad was called home to be with the Lord. Mom was away from our dad 14 years before they were reunited in Heaven on September 25, 2018. Eva is survived by her children, Troy Martinez of Ojo Caliente, Alma Rocha (Sebedeo) of Ojo Caliente, Armandina Escontrias (John) of Denver, Colorado, Diana Jaramillo of El Rito and Sandra Lopez (Gilbert) of Ojo Caliente; Daniela Perez (Walter) of Ojo Caliente, Joseph Trujillo (Rachel) of Rio Rancho, Denise Gallegos (Joe) of Vallecitos, David Barela (Natalie) of Denver, Colorado, Dina Vallejos (Darren) of Denver, Colorado, Felix Jaramillo of El Rito, Anita Jaramillo (Joey) of Rio Rancho, Vanessa Lopez (Orlando) of El Rito, Aaron Lopez (Andrea), Alyssa Lopez (Mark) and Jesus Perez, all of Ojo Caliente.
