Eulalia Q. Newton age 92, passed away peacefully wrapped in the prayers of her loving family on Sunday, January 3, 2016 after a long, joyous and blessed life. Eulalia Elisia Quintana was born December 10, 1923 to Amarante and Ramoncita Quintana. Eulalia was the second of three daughters. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest “Rocky” Newton, parents Amarante and Ramoncita Quintana, sister, Josie Martinez and husband Joe Martinez and brother in-law Ed Sauer. Eulalia is survived by her sister Gertrude Sauer; sister in-law Stella Hedman; daughters Marilyn Newton-Wright and husband Erle Wright, Mona Newton and husband David Lewis; grandchildren Sonia Salazar and husband Dale, Patrick Trujillo and wife Melanie, Lillianna Montoya and husband Steve; niece, Danette Velarde Martinez, who was like a daughter and her husband Brian Martinez; seven great grandchildren Dale Jr. and Christopher Salazar, Sebastian and Maddox Trujillo; Steve, Andrea, and Edward Montoya; caregivers and companions Sandra Lopez and Antonio Mendez; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and exchange students who still refer to her as ‘Mom’. She is remembered by many as very warm and generous - offering food comfort and love. Eulalia enjoyed traveling to sites like Alaska and other parts of the world. One of her most memorable trips was to Rome, Italy where she was personally blessed by Pope Francis. Her deep spirituality was exemplified by being a lifelong parishioner of Santa Cruz de la Cañada and her decades long devotion to the San Pedro and La Mesilla Coros de la Sagrada Familia. Eulalia, also affectionately known as “Eula”, graduated from Española High School as valedictorian. Her accomplished professional career spanned seven decades, from the Española High School to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Eulalia was a pioneer, leader and path breaker, rising to be the first Hispanic female Group Leader at LANL where she was highly respected for her work ethic, professionalism, sharp wit and incredible memory. She was also very proud that she played a role in the Manhattan Project. Her work with numerous groups including, MANA and American Women’s Business Association (AWBA) supported the advancement and empowerment of Hispanic women in New Mexico. Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 7:00 pm at la Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:00 am also at la Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with graveside services to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 pm. Serving the family as pallbearers are: Dale Salazar Jr., Jerome Sauer, Rubel Martinez, Jr., Manuel Bustos, Jr., Ralph Atencio, Mark Sanchez, Tommy Maestas, and Jesse Godfrey, honorary pallbearers are: Chris Salazar, Sebastian and Maddox Trujillo, Alyssa Davila, Brian Martinez, Jr., Daynee Martinez, Tillie Gonzales, Laura Martinez, Lydia Martinez, and Cecilia Barrone.
