Eufelia Romero

Eufelia M. Romero from Lyden, NM was born in Lyden on December 13, 1916 to Elias and Magdalena Miera and passed away peacefully while in hospice care at Care Free Living in Albuquerque on Friday, May 27, 2016.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Juan Pedro Romero; sons Pete Romero Jr., Albert E. Romero, Donald Romero, Ronald Romero; daughter Elizabeth Mallery; granddaughter Mia Lowe; and siblings Christino, Filadelfio, Beatrice Serrano, and Elias. She is survived by youngest brother Andy Miera from Draper, Utah; daughters Simmie (Ross) Boehm, Bernadette (Andrew) Riess, Brenda Romero, Martha Romero, and son Robert (Kim) Romero; nineteen grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren, who will all miss her as will her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Eufelia’s life was centered on her faith and she was a constant support to her family.  She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Velarde, NM, where she sang in the choir for many years.  Her singing was an inspiration for her musical daughter, Brenda.  Eufelia was an excellent cook and baker and loved to prepare meals for family, relatives and friends. Preserving fruits and vegetables was her passion and she was famous for her chokecherry jam and other favorites.
Eufelia’s family would like to thank all of her caregivers in Albuquerque at Care Free Living over the last two years, and also the staff of Hospice de la Luz, for their loving care and support.
Public Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend a Mass in celebration of Eufelia’s life on Friday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Velarde, followed by a potluck reception at the parish hall. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family of Eufelia M.
