Esther Tomasita Romero, 83, of El Valle, NM passed away peacefully in Grants, NM on March 17, 2017 surrounded by family.
Esther was born on March 9, 1934. Esther was the second daughter of Juan de Dios and Francisquita (Frankie) Romero. She graduated from Menaul High School in Albuquerque in 1955. After graduating she looked after her parents at the family ranch and continued to live there after their passing. She was of real pioneer stock as she was an accomplished rancher, farmer, gardener, home maker and talented quilt maker. She was full of life and loved the company of her family, friends and community.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; an infant sister and a close sister who passed away recently Loida Ortiz of Chimayo, NM; as well as brothers-in-law Herman Ortiz Jr. and William Parr.
She is survived by the following beloved relatives and friends; her brother Gerson T. Romero of El Valle, NM, and her sisters Anna Hayes of Lexington, OK and Martha Parr of New Braunfels, TX
Also, her nephews and nieces; Celina Vigil of Chimayo, Lloyd Ortiz of
Chimayo, Doris Vigil of Chimayo, Timmy (Sylvia) Ortiz of Albuquerque, Juan Ortiz of Chimayo, Sandra Ortiz of Chimayo, Franklin Romero of Milan, NM, Monte (Nicole) Romero of El Valle, formerly Hilo, HI, Adrian Romero of El Valle, NM, Eric Parr of Jordanton, TX and Rhonda Parr of New Braunfels, TX as well as numerous grand nephews and nieces.
Along with surviving members of her extended family; Primitivo Archuleta family of Truchas, NM; Guillermo Romero family of El Llano de San Juan, NM; Juan de Jesus Romero family of Dixon, NM; Jacobo Romero family of El Valle, NM; Canuto and Sara Velasquez family de Red Cliff, CO; Filomeno Cruz family of El Valle, NM; Amador Romero family of El Valle, NM; Elfido and Delfina Romero family of Williams, AZ; Geronimo Romero family of Santa Cruz, NM. A very dear friend and neighbor Marina Cruz of El Valle, NM; Menaul High School classmates Tony Romero of Albuquerque, Dorothy Romero of Albuquerque and Olivia Leyba of Los Lunas.
A special thanks to her caretakers from Options Home Care who assisted her at her home (El Valle) in her final years as well as staff at Espanola Nursing and Rehabilitation and the staff at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Grants for their care; former sister-in-law Lorraine Aguilar (Joe Campos) who unselfishly helped with her care while in Grants.
Esther will be greatly missed by all of those she touched.

Memorial service to be held at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a fellowship meal.
