Esther Diane Martinez

Esther Diane Martinez was born on September 4, 1968, to Merejildo Martinez and Celia Martinez in Albuquerque NM and was a life-long resident of Chimayo NM. 

Esther loved fishing, camping, gambling and spending time with her family and fur babies.

Esther was as she would say a “Happy Go lucky, Tough Cookie”. She loved life to the fullest, there was never a dull moment when she was around. You would always find Esther laughing and smiling with her beautiful dimples no matter the situation. Esther loved being by her husband Gabies side, he truly was the love of her life. Esther loved her children more than anything, there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for Brian and Ashly, they will always be her precious monitos. Esther had a very special bond with all of her fur babies. Above all Esther’s faith is was what carried her through life.

Esther Diane Martinez passed away from a lengthy illness on December 22, 2023.

Esther is preceded in death by her father Merejildo Martinez; step-father Ramon Sotelo; daughter: Baby Mary Martinez; sister Kathy Camargo; mother-in-law Esther Martinez; father-in-law Armando Martinez; brother-in-law Ricky Salazar; nephew Simon Jaramillo; special cousins Shirley Mae Gallegos and Jeffrey Martinez. Esther Diane Martinez is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gabie Martinez; son Brian Martinez; daughter Ashly Martinez (Brandi Gutierrez);  Godchildren Marissa Lawrence, Christopher Lawrence and Fredrick Gallegos; mother Celia Martinez; sister Barbara Martinez; brother Marvin Martinez; brothers-in-law Enfrain Camargo and Tommy Archuleta; sister-in-law Carol Martinez; nieces Wanda Martinez, Dorice Martinez, Marisa Quintana, Monique Quintana, Rebbecca Salazar and Jennifer Martinez; nephews Ricky Salazar & Miguel Salazar; and many other Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Fur babies “Big Boy” Chompy, Chizzpas, “lil” nugget, wedo, gordy, shorty, chancla and mushi.

Esther was and is so greatly loved. She will be missed dearly.

Special Thanks to Esther’s sister Barbara Martinez for always being there for Esther and us no matter the situation.

Public Viewing will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 5:30 pm, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, NM, with burial to follow at Nuestra Senora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo, NM.
