Esequiel “Zeke” Salazar, 82, Our loving father was called home on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Zeke was a member of the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Parish in Pojoaque and a former member of the church council. He retired after 50 years from the Fire Department, Mason & Hanger and EGG in Los Alamos. He was an Army Veteran of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan and the Honorable Discharge Medal. Zeke was an active member and a fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus for the past 60 years. He served as a member of the SPMDTU, Councilio #57 de Nambe for the past 61 years, with 16 of those as Presidente Superior. He was a former member of the Pojoaque School Board and President of the Federal Employees Union. Zeke was preceded in death by his grandson, Benito Garcia. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Clara; daughter, Charlotte Garcia and husband Ben; sons: Steven and wife Cathy, Victor and wife Stephanie, Edward and wife Mary Alice and Vincent and wife Carolyn; grandchildren: Juan Carlo and fiancé Rachel, Angelina, Steve and wife Danya, Carolyn and husband Will, Andrea and husband Robert, Mario and fiancé Jesusita, Monica and husband Scott, Christina, Stephanie, Vicente and fiancé Courtney, David and Raquel; great-grandchildren: Alisha, Amber, Elijah, Brittney, Matthew, Kaden, Myah, Alyssa, Ryan, Ava, Taylyn and Devin; brother: Joe and wife Jeanette, Damacio and wife Mona; brother-in-law, Joe Gonzales and wife Tillie; sister-in-law, Ramona Gonzales; caregivers: Raquel and Mayera De La Riva, Veronica Leyva. Rosary will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a second rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. The family of Esequiel “Zeke” Salazar have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
