Ervin M. Salazar, 54, a resident of El Guache passed away following a long battle of cancer on Sunday, May 19, 2013, with his loving wife by his side. Ervin was a kind and compassionate person who had the heart to work with children and young adults teaching them the tools for having the best overall performance in a rodeo. Most importantly, he loved teaching them the power of prayer and the importance of relying on God. He also enjoyed spending time, laughing, joking and sharing with the elderly. He was a rancher by trade who had a great passion for horses. He was a member of the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Posse Search and Rescue Team. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Martinez and Libby Salazar; grandparents: Carolina Jaramillo and Frank Salazar, Mentor, Ted Arviso and father-in-law, Pedro Martinez. He is survived by his dedicated, supporting wife, Dolores Salazar of 14 years. Also, two step daughters: Maryann Vigil and companion Fernando Gonzales and Maureen Vigil, one spiritual daughter, Jill Valdez; and his five grandchildren who were his most precious gifts: Shaun, Alyssa, Aaron, and Alayna Gonzales, and Skyy Medina. His loving adopted Mother and Sister Dilia Romero and Angelina Maestas and companion Marc Valerio; mother-in-law, Dolores Martinez and many other loving relatives and friends. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Truth Ministry Calvary Chapel in Arroyo Seco with burial to follow at San Rafael Cemetery in El Guique with the following serving as pallbearer, Shaun Gonzales; honorary pallbearers named are: Alyssa, Aaron, and Alayna Gonzales, and Skyy Medina. The family Ervin M. Salazar have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
