Ermelinda F. Martinez , 87 of Cuarteles, passed away peacefully in her home on November 30, 2017. Ermelinda was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Ascencion Martinez, and siblings, Rubel Martinez, Rose Florence and Isabel Montoya. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School as valedictorian in 1950. She then continued her education at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas.
Throughout her career, she had several employers including Kirtland Air Force Base, the Department of Interior in Carlsbad, the Atomic Energy Commission, the Espanola Hospital and the office of Dr. Leonard Akes. Ermelinda is survived by her sisters: Adelina Quintana, Amada Villareal, Dilia Martinez (Gilbert), sister-in-law Laura Martinez, dedicated caretaker and niece, Barbara Akes as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz de la Cañada Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Burial to follow at the Santa Cruz de la Cañada Catholic Cemetery. Ermelinda’s honorary pallbearers are Floyd Quintana and Tim Martinez. The family of Ermelinda F.
