Epimenia Montoya, 84, a resident of La Madera, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 24, 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Manuel Bautista and Emiliana Martinez, both of Canon de Vallecitos; two brothers, Rudy and David Martinez, Raquel Martinez, whom Epimenia took care of since the age 13, a grand-daughter, Teresita Archuleta; a close sister-in-law Rufinita Clokey who passed away a week earlier; Uncles Elias Salazar and Daniel Rivera; aunt, Fedelina Jaramillo. She was born in Canon de Vallecitos in 1930. A devout catholic, Epimenia entrusted her life to the Holy Family and the Santo Nino. She is survived by her husband, Roberto Montoya of 64 years, from La Madera; her sons, Robert Montoya Jr. and wife Rosemary of Santa Fe, Rudy Montoya and wife Elva of Espanola, daughters, Lillie Martinez and husband Felix of El Rito, Elsie Archuleta and husband Sam of El Rito daughter Bernadette Gallegos and husband Stephen of El Rito. Epimenia had 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren whom she loved deeply. Two sisters, Odelsia Chacon and husband Fernandez of Canon de Vallecitos, Elise Lovato of Espanola, two brothers, Horacio Martinez and wife Cordy of Canon de Vallecitos and Manuel Martinez and wife Mary Agnes of Espanola; three sisters-in-law, Zela Martinez of Leadville Colorado, Eufelia Martinez and Nestorita Montoya of La Madera; her aunt Genoveva Vigil of Ojo Caliente, and many many nieces and nephews whom she adored. Epimenia was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and an all-around wonderful woman who will never be forgotten and will always be loved. Public visitation will begin on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente, with a burial to follow at La Madera Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers Bert Montoya, Daryl Montoya, Jamie Martinez, Johnny Chacon, Ronnie Martinez, Dean Martinez, and Matthew Martinez, honorary pallbearers are grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family of Epimenia Montoya has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
