Epifania Medina, 97, a resident of Vadito, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Epifania was preceded in death by her parents, Julio and Nieves Gonzales; her husband Alfredo Medina; children, George Medina, Aurelio Medina; grandson, Steven Abeyta, great-great granddaughter; Erica Lee Andrews; brothers Rubel, Enrique, Cecilio, and Ramon Gonzales, sisters, Isabel Lujan, Gripiana Mascarenas, Evan Lopez, and Filia Martinez. Mrs. Medina was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother whom they all called their little solider because she never complained, her strength, braveness and courageous ways contributed to the beautiful woman she was. She loved cooking for her family whom she loved dearly and along with her cooking she will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Medina is survived by her children, Horacio Medina of Vadito, Alice Arguello and husband Joe of Livermore, CA, Obed and wife Rosie Medina, Nellie Vargas and Edna Abeyta all of Vadito; 23 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Mary Medina of Las Vegas, N.V., Jennie Medina of Green River W.Y.; sister-in-law, Kate Garduño of Peñasco, and other numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, November, 17, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Penasco with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Peñasco. Burial to follow at the Vadito Cemetery with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Patrick Medina, John Martinez, Frank Lopez, P.J. Medina, Steven Vigil, and Isaac Melendez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Lilly Mae Refuerzo, Antoinette Medina, Bernadette Abeyta, Julie Vargas, Theresa Vargas, Monica Abeyta. The family of Epifania Medina has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
