Our beloved, Jerry Alarid, 83, from Ranchitos, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He took his last breath as the family finished praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacobo and Josephine Alarid; parents-inlaw Antonio and Maria Medina; siblings Kathleen Alarid, Dennis J. Alarid, Connie A. Valdez, Jake Alarid, Jr.; brothers in-law, Tim Salazar, Delfinio Valdez, Gilbert Medina, Lemo Medina, Sisto Garcia, Orlando Borrego, Anastacio Sisneros; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Alarid, Martha Alarid, Marie Alarid, Eufelia Sisneros and Margaret Sisneros, several nephews and nieces and many other relatives and friends.
Jerry was a gifted musician and well known in the community. He was an excellent guitarist and played many other instruments including the harmonica. He played with various bands, and with a group that played for wakes, Las Posadas and many masses. He and the group played for Las Posadas for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing at the Farmer’s Market every summer. He was the composer of the song “Andando Pal Santuario,” played and recorded by Los Tiempos, a band he played with at the time. Jerry worked with the U.S. Forest Service for many years and retired from Rio Arriba Streets Department. He enjoyed gardening and making arts and crafts. His yard is full of bird houses he made. He enjoyed feeding and providing water for the birds he loved listening to sing while having his morning coffee. He enjoyed gardening, sports, visiting with family and friends.
Jerry was a kind, humble and gentle soul. He will be missed by many. He is survived by the love of his life, wife Nettie, sons he raised as his own, Steve (Janet) and Andy (Vickie) Archuleta; grandchildren Marissa and Miguel Maldonado, Ashley Garcia and Elisia Archuleta; Step-Grandchildren Sherrie Lujan, Miguel and Sandra Lujan, Chloe Lujan, and Heather Martinez; Great Grandson and best friend, Elijah Garcia; siblings include Gilbert Alarid, Ralph (Sadie) Alarid, Johnny (Carol) Alarid, Bennie Salazar, Alice Lucero (Elmer), Anthony (Helen) Alarid, Bernadette Alarid, Carmen (Gilbert) Serrano; In-laws include Sally Borrego, Angie Garcia, Tony Medina, and Joe Sisneros; many nieces and nephews, one especially close to him Elmer Lucero, Jr.; and many other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, followed by a Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at San Juan de Bautista Catholic Church in San Juan Pueblo, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place immediately after Mass at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
