ELSIE V. MANZANARES, 94, a resident of Espanola, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 7, 2018, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Manzanares; parents, Toribio and Aurora Romero; siblings, John, Pat and Alfonso Romero, Margaret Martinez and Antonia Gallegos; in-laws, Locadio and Virginia Manzanares; brothers and sisters-in-law; sons-in-law, Richard Garcia and Bert Vigil and grandson, Joseph Rendon. Elsie was a home maker raising her six children, in 1966 her family moved from Albuquerque to Espanola where she worked along side with her husband and children at A&W Drive Inn. Both her and Manuel were lovingly called Tio and Tia by all employees. Besides working at home and A&W she began babysitting for our neighbors and family friends. She loved being a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a retired member of Altar and Rosary Society. She will be remembered as a tender loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She is survived by her children Veronica (Johnny), Patsy, Frances and partner James, Frankie (Carolyn), Anthony and Chanda; sister, Theodora Salazar and husband Zach; sisters-in-law, Lulie Romero and Anita Romero; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Public visitation will begin on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz. Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Ernest Silva, Chris Silva, Manuel Vigil, Edward Manzanares, Greg Manzanares, and Dominic Manzanares. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to Amber care and their staff, special thanks to Tiffany, Virginia, Anna and Emily along with Gracie, Gina, Bjaia, Janice and Chaplin Mike. Also thank you to Lita Apodaca for coming once a week to bring Mom holy communion, thank you to DeVargas Funeral Home and Staff. The family of Elsie V. Manzanares has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
