Elsie Amaya

ELSIE R. AMAYA, 78, a resident of Chimayo, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many left us on Sunday, March 10, 2019. She will be dearly missed by al those who knew and loved and cared for her. Elsie was born on July 6, 1940 in Chimayo New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Candido and Sarita Romero; brothers, Candelario, Avaristo, Octavio and Tony Romero, sister, Luisa; brother-in-law, Levi Trujillo; sons, Robert (Valentin) and Ventura Velasquez; father and mother-in-law, Gregorio and Joaquina Amaya. Elsie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ramon Amaya; daughter, Bertha Denetclaw, sons, Bernie Velasquez Jr. and wife Lori, Jimmy Velasquez, David Velasquez and wife Carmen and Michael Amaya and wife Charlotte Gallegos-Amaya; 11 grandchildren, Elsie-Lena and Kenneth Denetclaw, Ivan, Lenore, Kevin Melissa, Daniel, Celina, and Cynthia Velasquez, Ashley Amaya, and Alyssa Gallegos, 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Gregoria Trujillo; sisters-in-law,  Augustina Romero, Dora Romero, and Rita Romero; niece who throughout her life was very close to her, Nina and husband Lawrence Torres, brothers -in-law and their spouses, Miguel and Rosa Amaya, Angel and Urcilia Amaya, and Valerio and Oralia Amaya, sisters-in-law, Esther, who helped care for her in her last days, Martina, Carmella, Christina, and Chuma; nephews, Eloy and Santiago Talamante and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at Nuestra Senora de Carmel Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Ivan Velasquez, Kevin Velasquez, Daniel Velasquez, Orlando Romero, Antonio Trujillo and Carlos Griego. The family of Elsie R.
