ELSIE I SIMCOX, age 89, died at her daughter’s home in White Rock on Monday, December 2, 2013, after a brief illness preceded by a fall at home. She was born Elsie Isabella Bentley in Liverpool, England, on August 1, 1924. At 18, she joined the British Navy-Army-Air Force Institute (the NAAFI) where she served meals, coffee, and tea to British and American servicemen during World War II. In time, she met Chester B Simcox, a Yank, when they both were stationed at Crewe Hall, Crewe, England. She became a War Bride in 1946 and went to Germany with her husband who took part in the Berlin Air Lift. In 1951, she and Chester brought their son, John, to New York State where their daughter, Carolyn, was later born. \r\nOver the years, she showed her two children much love, and many museums, wherever Chester was stationed in the US Air Force. She never forgot her British roots and made sure her son and daughter knew their English family and appreciated British traditions. \r\nShe enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, and caring for her cats Sammie and Tish. \r\nShe moved to White Rock in 1998 after the death of her husband, Chester, in Aurora CO, where they had lived for many years. \r\nShe is survived by her son, John Simcox (Jeff) of Albuquerque; daughter, Carolyn Macdonell of Los Alamos; grandson, Ben Macdonell (Dawna) and great-grandson, Carson of Las Vegas, NV; grandson, Alex Macdonell (Becca) of Tucson AZ; nephew, Malcolm Kent; nieces, Joyce Bentley and Jean Shaw of England, and niece Jill Lindo of Bermuda. \r\nIn lieu of flowers, Elsie expressed a preference for donations to be made to your favorite animal shelter.
