Elmer Velasquez

ELMER VELASQUEZ, Age 59, a resident of Cañones passed away on the early morning of May 30, 2019, at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his brothers Genaro Velasquez Jr. and Juan Velasquez, brother-in-law Arturo Valdez, father-in-law Waldo Maestas, and mother-in-law Carlota Maestas. He was the youngest of nine children born to the late Genaro and Eva Velasquez of Cañones. Elmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Mary Velasquez; his children, Erika Ainsworth and husband Andy of White Rock and Jason Velasquez of Chili; his beloved grandchildren Michael Velasquez-Saiz, Jayden Velasquez-Fresquez, Luke Ainsworth, and an unborn grandson; brothers Delfino Velasquez and wife Nadine of Ojo Sarrco, Vidal Velasquez and wife Ruth of Chili, Sammy Velasquez and wife Orlinie of Chili; and sisters Dora Trujillo and husband Leopoldo of El Guache, Susie Corrales and husband Louie of Chili, and Aurelia Valdez of Cañones; and  numerous loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and life-long friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Santo Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu, with a burial to follow at the Cañones Cemetery. Assisting the family as Pallbearers will be Arturo Valdez Jr., Eugene Corrales, Stanley Trujillo, Nestor Trujillo, Isaiah Velasquez, and Michael Velasquez, honorary pallbearers include Matthew Velasquez, Issac Velasquez, Randy Velasquez, and Daniel Velasquez.
