ELIZABETH SAUNDERS, 71 a resident of Pojoaque, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010. Elizabeth (Liz) Saunders, 71, went home to be with our lord October 22, 2010 following a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born October 18, 1939 in Worcester, Massachusetts, Liz has lived the last 37 years in the beautiful Pojoaque Valley. Liz grew up in MA where she graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and then received her BS from William Smith College in Geneva, NY. She arrived at LANL after working in Boston, Italy, and Colorado, where she met her husband George. Liz had a never ending love for her family; she took especially great pride in her grandchildren. She loved her work and wonderful co-workers in Life Sciences Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She loved her church, St. Stephens in Española. Liz also loved gardening, sewing, reading detective stories and playing bridge. At every turn she could be found helping someone else out, putting herself last. This is how she lived her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lucy Hinckley; and sister, Deborah Cecil. Mrs. Saunders is survived by her loving family: Husband, George; Sister, Janet Jelinek; son, Mark and wife Rolenda Saunders, son, Greg Saunders and daughter, Maria Tsoodle, Grandchildren: Bianca, Gregorio, Lane, and Krimson Saunders, Kira and Seneca Tsoodle, and numerous other family members and friends. The Saunders Family would like to extend special thanks to all of those who have reached out in this trying time sending prayers and condolences, and offering any other support. She will be missed by many. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St Stephens Episcopal Church in Española on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a small donation to St. Stephens would be appreciated. The Saunders family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.\r\n
