ELISEO ORTEGA, 34, a resident of La Mesilla, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2017. He was preceded in death by his step-grandmother, Irene Jaramillo; grandfather, Joe Ortega, step grandparents Johnny and Tillie Garcia, and numerous other relatives.  Eliseo will be greatly missed and will always be remembered as a kindhearted, loving and loyal person with a joyful heart and contagious laugh that always lit up a room.  He loved going to his family’s Lazy J Ranch working with the cows and horses with his grandpa, uncles, and cousins, he loved sports and was an avid Cowboys fan, he was in ROTC,  United States Student Ambassador Representative, 1st degree Black Belt (Kempo) and member of Team USA Martial Arts. Awarded for exemplary dedication and service enhancing the quality of life among all peoples in the land of enchantment by the NM Secretary of State, made dean’s list for two years in a row at Denver College. He was as a Correctional and Safety Officer for most of his professional career and worked at the Espanola Public Schools. Eliseo is survived by his Loving Mother, Myrna Garcia and Step-father, Roland Garcia; Grandparents, LeRoy and Mary Garcia; Cordy Ortega-Martinez; his beloved Aunts and Uncles, Audra Garcia (Jason), Pauline Lopez; David and Emily Jaramillo, nephew, David Jaramillo Jr.  A rosary will be recited on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Serving the family as Honorary Pallbearers are Eppie Martinez, Ernie Lopez, Natalia Manzanares, Amanda Garcia, Jeffery Pacheco and Adam Roybal.
