ELFEGO LOVATO, 97, a resident of La Mesilla, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Elfego was preceded in death by his wife, Carlota Lovato; parents, Jacobo and Beatriz Lovato; daughter, Christella Lovato; granddaughter, Gracie Lovato and daughter-in-law, Tanny Lovato; sisters, Vangie Duran, Isabel Romero, and Grace Salazar; and brother, Joe Lovato. Elfego was an iron worker at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and a rancher in Holman. He was a Veteran of WWII; was discharged honorably and awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Lovato is survived by his children, Phillip Lovato of La Mesilla, Elfego Lovato, Jr. and wife Patricia of La Villita, Elsie Lovato of Los Alamos, Beatrice Tapie and husband Jack, Amos Lovato, Gloria Olivas and husband Felix all of La Mesilla and Toby and Jake Lovato and wife Anita of Holman; 21 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial to take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Aaron, Jacob, Josiah and Joshua Lovato, Christopher Olivas and Cody Tapie. The family of Elfego Lovato has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
