Elevie (Levi) Gurule

d. May 15, 2021

Elevie (Levi) P. Gurule, 72 , a resident of Alcalde passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, May 15, 2021 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, JoAnne Gurule, mother and father, Gregorita and Andronico Gurule, his brothers, Leo, Robert (Bobby) Gurule, mother-in-law Griselda (Grace) Montoya, and his loving fur-baby; Kujo.

Levi retired from the State of New Mexico after 25 years of service. He was an active Jehovah’s Witness, loving father, grand-father, and friend. Levi was an avid outdoorsman whose passion was fishing, going for wood, working in his yard, and playing the guitar. His passion for being outdoors consisted of going for rides to the mountains, camping, working on his trucks, working his garden, and preaching God’s word. Levi loved his guitar. Levi felt great joy and pride spending time with his spiritual and loving family. His pride and joy were his grandkids, Grayson and Aryn- or as he lovingly referred to them: “The Terrifics”. He loved playing with them, and showing them his guitars, tractor, four-wheeler, and teaching them the rich Northern New Mexican culture and music he loved so much. Levi learned to play the guitar by ear as a kid, and would play until his fingers bled. Levi played lead guitar in many local bands, and most recently with his son Miguel Timoteo in their band Suavidad. Levi was known for his sense of humor, his jokes, and his contagious smile. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his sons, Jamie Levi Jr, and Miguel Timoteo (Erica) Gurule; grandchildren, Grayson and Aryn Gurule all of Albuquerque; Sisters Alice (John) Bailey, Judy Brown, Sadie (John) Ortiz; Brothers Andy (Jenny), Dino Gurule, and Bobby Serrano. Special brother/sister in-laws Marlene (Alfonso) Lucero, Lillian Gurule, Antonio and Benny Montoya. His special cousins who were like siblings; Vita (Joel) De Herrera, Pres (Mary) and Benny DeVargas. He is also survived by his best friend Bertha Sanchez who cared for him until his last breath, along with too many loving friends and family to name.
