Eleanor Maria Griego, 103, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Endelecia Mascarenas; three brothers, and three sisters; her husband of 56 years, Manuel Griego; daughter, Lorraine Pacheco, sons, Isaac, and Manuel Griego Jr.; grandson, Lawrence Velarde, granddaughter, Ariana Rendon; sons-in-law, Donald Velarde Sr., and Arturo Pacheco. Eleanor was honored by the Rio Arriba County at the age of 100 as the oldest Matriarch of Dixon, within the senior program. She also was the senior queen of 2008. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Dorcas Velarde of Dixon, Gladys and Hector Saldana of Alamogordo, and Evila Rendon and David Valdez of Dixon; grandchildren, Deia Christner of Maine, Donald Velarde Jr., Marvin, Joe, Donna Aguilar, Edward Pacheco, Angela Martinez, Shannon, Nick, Isaac, and Johnathan Griego, Laura Gene Aguilar, 14 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous other loving relatives, neighbors and friends. A public visitation will begin on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with a burial to follow at Father Cooper Catholic Cemetery in Dixon, with the following serving as pallbearers Marvin Aguilar, Joe Aguilar, Donald Velarde Jr., Donald Velarde III, Matthew Martinez, and Jeffery Pacheco, honorary pallbearers will be her great, and great-great grandchildren. The family of Eleanor Maria Griego has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
