Edward Jose Lovato, 68, a resident of La Madera, was called home on Friday, January 2, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parent’s, Prescilano and Cordelia Lovato; brother, Pres Lovato Jr. Edward went to elementary school at McCurdy and then went to Menaul High School and graduated in 1965. After graduation from high school he attended Trinidad State College for a few years. In 1972, he returned home to La Madera and married Edna and together moved to California for a few years where Edward worked for General Motors. In 1978, Edward and Edna moved to Las Cruces where Edward returned to college and graduated from New Mexico State University in 1982 with a degree in Agricultural Science. He returned to La Madera in 1982 and worked for the Mesa Vista Schools District and YDI Head Start and retired after 20 years of service. Edward’s passions were his family, gardening, reading the paper, collecting coins and stamps, spending time with his grandchildren, watching sports on TV, and enjoying his hometown of La Madera. Eddie will be missed deeply and remembered fondly. He is survived in life by his wife of 42 years, Edna Lovato; his beloved daughters, Jessica Manzanares (Juan “JJ”), Stephanie Reyes (Manuel), and Sarah Lovato, brother, Abran Lovato (Gina); Grandchildren; Maryssa Martin, Alejandro Reyes, Damien Lovato, Joseph Reyes, Antonio Edward Manzanares, and Danika Lovato. Public visitation will begin on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the lower cemetery in La Madera. The family of Edward Jose Lovato has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
