EDWARD “EDDIE” SANCHEZ, 84, a lifelong resident of Chamita, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Luisita Sanchez; brothers, Tony, Ben and Porfirio Sanchez; nephews, Ted Martinez, Jr. and Marvin Sanchez and sister-in-law, Georgia Sanchez. He loved to cook, he liked listening to Spanish music, and also loved animals. He always had a heavy foot and the family would have to tell him to slow down. He liked to plant especially tomatoes, he was also very generous and loveable. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his sisters, Rose Mascareñas and husband Ernesto, Carmen Martinez and husband Ted; niece he helped raise, Debbie Martinez, her husband Daniel and her children Denise and Dominic all of Chamita; sister-in-law, Bertha Sanchez; cousins, Cornelio Sanchez and Flora Herrera; close friends, Josephine Borrego, Robert Villareal; and many other nephews, niece’s relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers, Ernest Mascareñas, Jr., Michael Mascareñas, Lonnie Sanchez, Elizabeth Tidham, Veronica Atencio, Catheren Mascareñas, Hope Mascareñas, Debbie Martinez, Sandra Sanchez, Nora Lovato, Louise Sanchez and Edwina Martinez.
