Edna J. Valdez, 78, a resident of Espanola, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, with her loving family by her side. Edna was born in Chimayo, NM, to Benny and Nettie Martinez. As the only daughter, Edna was protected and revered by her brothers and parents. She met the love of her life, Luis Valdez, and they married in 1958. They were married for nearly 60 years. Edna loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly and spent her life raising and caring for them. Edna was beautiful, kind, and was willing and ready to help anyone with anything they needed. Edna enjoyed Spanish music, arts and crafts, going for rides, and visiting with her family and friends. Edna is survived by her husband, Luis Valdez; children, Peggy Gonzales (Steve), Nettie Smith (Jim), George Valdez (Yvette), and Lynn Varoz (William); brothers, Leroy Martinez and Dick Martinez (Donila); grandchildren, Ashley Gonzales, Lindsey Gaspar (Andrew), Nicholette Smith, Candyce Valencia (Conrad), Shayna Valdez, Kristin, Brianna, Valerie, and George Valdez, Miranda and Kamille Varoz; great-grandchildren, Cedryc, Ceryne, Nyree and EzMae, and many other loving family, relatives, and friends. A wake service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Senora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo. The family of Edna J. Valdez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
