Edna Espinoza, 80 a resident of El Llano passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday January 10, 2016. Edna was preceded in death by her husband Antonio Espinoza; and grandson that they raised Donald Espinoza; his fiancé Amelia Martinez and baby Natalie; parents Alberto and Amanda Mascarenas; brothers, Leroy, Arturo, Lee and Roger Mascarenas.
Edna was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother sister and friend. She was a caregiver in every way and loved helping others. She was born to Alberto and Amanda Mascarenas in Embudo New Mexico. She was raised in Apodaca where she helped her parents grow crops and make a family home. She played with her siblings in the fields and climbing the hills behind their parent’s home. She often helped to care for the younger children of the family. This is where she began her lifetime of caring for others.
As a young woman Edna became a nurse’s aide at the Espanola Hospital and then continued to work as a caregiver for many years at Santa Maria Mirador. Edna moved to California and married her husband Antonio of 55 years and began raising their family. In 1961 Edna and Antonio returned from California and began building their home and a lifetime of raising their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Edna was born to take care of others. She cared for her children and many nieces and nephews in her early years. Then she was blessed with 6 grandchildren and spent her days taking care of them and then volunteering at their schools and she especially loved going on field trips with them. She enjoyed spending time with her family going to the mountains camping and having picnics and especially pinon picking. She loved to watch her babies play sports and was often found sitting behind home plate cheering for home runs.
Edna is survived by her children Donna (Mike), Mark and Jeff. Grand children that she raised Marcos (LeeAnn), Audrey (Domonic), Alisha (Tony), Brandon (Gabrielle) and Kayla. Great Grandchildren Twyla, Jose, Nikkolas, Haylee, Missy, Marius, Derek, and Aria. Sisters Esther Romero (Nelson), and Dila Sanchez. Brother Alfonso Mascarenas (Mary); sisters,-in-law, Teresa and Pauline Mascarenas and extended family Brigida Olivas and family from Norwalk, CA as well as many other family and friends. Devotional Service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Victory Faith Church in Española. Burial will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Edna will be carried to her final resting place by her boys Jose, Nikko, Marius, Brandon and Derek.
