Dulcinea Martinez

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother Dulcinea (AKA Dulce) Martinez, age 92, a resident of Chimayo, NM, born February 25, 1932, passed away on May 9, 2024.  

Dulce was a reserved, but a hard-working person.  She never left no work undone.  She was a perfectionist.  Her house was spotless.  She had rules and regulations.  She taught her daughters about God and practically were in church where she was involved in Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. Dulce’s faith in God was strong, she also had a sense of humor and was a storyteller.  She knew a lot of her passed relatives.  She fought a good fight and now is resting.  Dulce was a beautiful lady inside and out.  

Dulce was preceded in death by her parents Esquiel and Juanita DeVargas; husband Edward; brothers Abel DeVargas and Aaron DeVargas; sister Clara Archuleta; grandsons Jeremy Montoya and Zacky Montoya; and son-in-law Gary Talachy.

Dulce is survived by her daughters Mary Sandoval, Rosina Vigil (Ben) and Flora Gauthier (Ray); sisters Della Valdez, Cora Archuleta, Carmen Panas and Gloria Manzanares; brothers Mike DeVargas (Rosemary) and Pete DeVargas (Gerri); sister-in-law Rosa Vargas; grandchildren Daydra Lopez, Phil Lopez (Jovan), Jonathan and Jason Vigil (Sonya), Steve Montoya (Lila) and Jewel Gonzales (Eric); 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Public Viewing will take place on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 5:30 pm at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM, with Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm.  On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, a viewing will take place at 11:30 am, with Mass to follow at 12:00 pm at St. Anne Parish in Santa Fe, NM, (511 Alicia Street, SF).  Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.

 Serving as Pallbearers are Phil Lopez, Chris Lopez, Jonathan Vigil, Steve Montoya, Eric Gonzales and Michael Vigil.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Vigil, Daydra Lopez and Jewel Gonzales .
