DR. LEON MILLER, M.D., beloved physician, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012 with his wife, Judith and son, Darryl, and Heather at his side. Dr. Miller was recovering beautifully from surgery at the hospital’s rehabilitation center when complications of an unknown nature set in. Dr. Miller received his Medical Degree from New York Medical College and Columbia 1964 and further degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of the State of New York the following year. Thus began a life devoted to the study and practice of Medicine, with certifications in Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation Medicine from Emory University, Duke and Chapel Hill and further study and certification in specialties from Dermatology to Psychiatry from many of the most prestigious medical centers in this country and abroad, including Royal College of Physicians and surgeons of London. Dr. Miller was a life member of the American Academy of Dermatology, and life member of the American Medical Association and had practiced medicine in Santa Fe for 45 years and several years on St. Simons Island, Georgia. In addition to his scientific work he enjoyed a rich cultural life and was a friend of such writers as Henry Miller and Cormac McCarthy. But above all, Dr. Miller is remembered by his patient’s, friends and family alike for his extraordinary warmth and generosity and kindness. In addition to his wife, Judith and his son, Darryl, Dr. Miller is survived by his grandsons, Darryl and Jeremiah; niece, Dr. Susan Auerbach and her husband Dr. Brian Langholz; cousins, Dr. Renee Schwartz and Dr. Steven Schwartz and by the Kopman, Kaufman, Roybal, Barrone, Ortiz, Romero and Wilder families and hundreds of relatives throughout the Country. Special friends would include, Consuelo Hernandez, Ray Valenzuela, Dr. Faye Miller, Attorney Richard Miller, Attorney Jose Sandoval, Father Jakobiak, Ann Wilder, Father Charles Thomas, Dennis Reinig, Father Francisco Alanis of Christ in the Desert Monastery and his many friends at the Chabad Jewish Center. Dr. Miller’s wife, Judith, asks that no flowers be sent but rather that friends and family remember him with some act of personal generosity that would properly reflect the spirit of this Extraordinary Man.
