Dr. J. Rudy - Age 64 - Chimayo Montoya

DR. J. RUDY MONTOYA, 64, a resident of Chimayo, born in Truchas passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 12, 2012. He was preceded in death by his son, Margarito Miguel Montoya; mother, Amalia Benita Montoya; brother, Walter Christobal Montoya and numerous other loving relatives. He graduated from Menual High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Highlands University in Education, Masters Degree from Boston College in Special Education with emphasis in sight and hearing impaired. Rudy also received a Doctorate from the University of New Mexico in Education with a diagnostic emphasis. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Navy for 2 years. He spent his career working with various school districts in New Mexico as an administrator. He focused on creating and improving education and training educators to improve performance standards. He was proficient in grant writing. He was nationally known as an expert in special education. Rudy was well respected and loved; he will be missed by many. He was a loving father, wonderful son and an awesome brother and brother-in-law. Words cannot express how amazing he was as a grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an avid fly fisherman and back packer. He was a consummate reader of any and all subjects. Rudy was passionate about his music, especially those oldies but goodies. Dr. Montoya is survived by his children, Toby Rudy Montoya and Nieves Dulcina Montoya; mother of his children and best friend, Marie Esther Salas; brother, Gene Montoya and wife Carol; father, Jose Lavro Montoya; niece and nephew, Andres Montoya and Melissa Montoya; grandchildren, Elisa, Isaiah and Aliana Montoya and Vincent Maestas and numerous aunts, uncles and other loving relatives and friends. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that contributions be made at any Del Norte Credit Union Branch under the names of Toby or Nieves Montoya for The Dr. J.
