Dorothy M. Gallegos , a resident of Chama, born on July 29, 1937 to Juan and Mela Mares, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Domingo; daughter Gloria; granddaughters Bryanna and Bryonny; brothers William, Frank and Johnny Mares; sisters Frances and Reyes, Ramoncita Martinez and Angie Bateman.  Dorothy is survived by her son Anthony (Andrea); daughters Patsy (Gene), MaryAnn (Ricky), Cyndi (Felipe), Archie, Valerie (Lefer) and Erlinda; 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter that she raised as her own Eric Gallegos, Tim Gallegos (Denise) and Corina (Lawrence); her sister Rose Gallegos; brother Richard Mares (Tillie); brother-in-law Clovis Martinez; sister-in-law Ramona Mares; grandchildren Nathan, Bridgette, B.J., Julie, Arriana, Tonie, Vanessa, Serenity, Savannah, Christa, Angel and Conchita;  Anthony Martinez from Española who she had adopted as her own grandson and loved dearly.  Her 4 BFF’s April Gallegos, Frances Salazar, Henrietta Smith and Clarence Deyapp.  A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chama. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. also at the St. Patrick’s Church in Chama. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Nathan Rivas, Tim Gallegos, Eric Gallegos, B.J. Samora, Ben Lujan and Albert Gonzales; honorary pallbearers will be all of her 27 great-grandchildren.  The family of Dorothy M. Gallegos has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
