Don Carlos Naranjo, 68, known by most as “Don Carlos” of the Don Carlos Barber Shop, a resident of La Mesilla, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, August 11, 2014 in Espanola. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Carlos Naranjo; son, William D. Naranjo; granddaughter, Ravyn M. Diebold; mother-in-law, Georgia Vigil; brothers-in-law, Dennis and John Vigil. Carlos was a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend. Carlos is survived by his wife, Pauline Naranjo; son, Frank A. Naranjo and daughter-in-law Rebecca Naranjo, daughter, Cindy M. Naranjo Diebold and son-in-law Ryan Diebold; grandchildren, Renae Naranjo, Lauren Naranjo, Frank A Naranjo, Jr., Miquella Naranjo, Reese Diebold, Rylee Diebold, Cruz Diebold; great-grandchild, Tiana Padilla; mother, Carmelita Naranjo; his four brothers, Mike Naranjo, Sammy Naranjo, Lawrence Naranjo and Robert Naranjo; seven sisters, Sophie Garcia, Clara Romero, Connie Espinoza, Elsie Griego, Carmen Martinez, Liz Ortiz and Ramoncita Massey. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. He was loved dearly by all. Carlos was a devoted catholic and a member of the Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus. He enjoyed his service to the Lord and the companionship of his hermanos. Carlos was a barber for over 40 years. The Don Carlos Barber Shop was located in Santo Nino. It was previously voted Best Barber Shop in Rio Arriba County. Carlos cut the hair of many youth in the area, many times their first, and they could always look forward to a Dum Dum lollipop at the end of each haircut. Carlos enjoyed spending time with his patrons, telling jokes and lending a helping hand. Carlos loved life and could often be found whistling, singing or twirling his keys while he strolled by. He was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. also at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Randy Garcia, Donald Naranjo, Carlos Griego, Sammy Naranjo, Jr., Ryan Diebold and Andres Martinez. The family of Don Carlos Naranjo has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
