Donald Eugene - age 65 - Chamita Espinosa

Donald Eugene Espinosa, 65, a resident of Chamita, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Ross Espinosa; sister, Yvonne Espinosa; maternal grandparents, Adrian and Elena Borrego and paternal grandparents, Espididian and Benuta Espinosa. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a Vietnam Veteran with the U.S. Army with the 25th infantry division. After twenty five years with the Los Alamos fire department he retired. After his retirement, Donald volunteered his time to the honor guard and was in attendance at numerous funerals for military honors. He had a skill in wood work in which he created furniture in Spanish colonial style. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors and was quite the nature lover. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Donald is survived by his wife of 38 years, JoAnne Espinosa of Chamita; daughter, Letitia Espinosa and fiancé Darryl Lovato of Chamita; sons, Marcos Espinosa and girlfriend Geraldine Martin of Albuquerque, Adam Espinosa and fiancé Janice Lopez of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Regina, Matthew and Isaiah Lovato of Chamita, Nikolas Espinosa of Rio Rancho; sisters, Kathy McLendon and Bill of Albuquerque, Emelda Roybal of Chamita, Linda Tapia and Cosme of Santa Fe, Debra Salazar and Larry of Espanola, Maryann Abeyta and Elefio of San Pedro, Macrina Montoya and Rick of Espanola; brothers, Chris Espinosa of Arkansas, Edward Espinosa and Magdalena of Arkansas, Michael Borrego and Debra of Medanales; parents in-laws, Tony Maestas and Beatrice of Chamita; brother in-law, Tim Maestas and Roseanne of La Mesilla, Tony Maestas and companion Marie of San Pedro, Jeff Maestas and Susan of La Mesilla; sister in-law, Susan Tellez and David of Las Cruces, Gerie Purdy and Mike of Chamita, Angela Maestas of Chamita; godsons, James Atencio of San Francisco, Mathew Fresquez of Velarde; goddaughters, Cassandra Purdy of Ojo Caliente and Olivia Tellez of Las Cruces, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Conce Fresquez, Gilbert Maestas, Jeff Maestas, Tony Trujillo, Ronald Trujillo, Darryl Lovato, Mike Purdy, and Elefio (Fofo) Abeyta. The family of Donald Espinosa has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
